About this event

Both diet and gut microbiome are important modifiable factors to modulate the risk of type 2 diabetes. There is emerging interest to examine the role of gut microbiota in mediating the diet-diabetes relationship. Here in this talk, I will present our work in several Chinese cohorts showing how dietary and nutritional factors interact with the gut microbiota to modulate risk of diabetes and its risk factors. Apart from the above nutri-microbiome epidemiology approach, I will also present some unpublished results about the diet-gut microbiome interaction on glycaemic traits by using novel n-of-1 clinical trials.

Dr Ju-Sheng Zheng is a principal investigator and assistant professor at Westlake University, China. He got his PhD in nutrition at Zhejiang University and postdoc training at MRC Epidemiology Unit at Cambridge University (2015-2018). The major interest of Ju-Sheng’s group at Westlake is to investigate the interplay among diet, gut microbiome and host genetics for cardiometabolic health by using longitudinal cohort studies and novel clinical trials. Majority of these works have been published in leading journals in the field, such as Gut, Diabetes Care, Nat Commun, Diabetologia and Am J Clin Nutr.
