Event description

Description

Join the DC chapter of Muslims for Progressive Values (MPV) for our second film screening. We kicked off our monthly film screening a couple of weeks ago and it was a great success. The next one is scheduled at the same venue in downtown DC on Saturday, September 23 at 1 PM. We will be showing a documentary about Ibn Battuta titled 'Ibn Battuta: The Man Who Walked Across the World.' This documenatary is broken into three 1-hour long parts and due to time constraints, we will only watch parts 2 and 3 together. I suggest that you watch part 1 on your own beforehand. It is, however, not necessary that you watch part 1 in order to enjoy the rest of the film. Here is the link to part 1 in case you do choose to watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1d5qcVP7ig.

In case you've never heard of Ibn Battuta, here's some information about him:

Muhammad Ibn Battuta was a Moroccan scholar who widely traveled the medieval world. Over a period of thirty years, Ibn Battuta visited most of the Islamic world and many non-Muslim lands, including North Africa, the Horn of Africa, West Africa, the Middle East, India, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and China. Near the end of his life, he dictated an account of his journeys, titled A Gift to Those Who Contemplate the Wonders of Cities and the Marvels of Traveling, usually simply referred to as The Travels, one of the world's most famous travel books. This account of his journeys provides a picture of medieval civilization that is still widely consulted today.
