Description

Join the “ArtisTree” during Moving Toward Balance. Environmental, kinetic artist Elayna Toby Singer is creating a movement to promote personal and environmental balance with her community art program, Moving Toward Balance. The People’s Choice Award winner offers the one-hour, hands-on experience throughout the weekend during the International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium February 2 – 3, 2019 which is hosted by Boynton Beach Art in Public Places.

Enjoy song, movement, mindfulness and creating a balanced mobile. You will learn about how your intentions and actions to protect, preserve and plant native trees help reduce climate change and restore balance to the environment.

Elayna Toby Singer will also guide participants in setting and writing action-oriented intentions for moving toward personal and environmental balance as participants create individual “manifestation mobiles” for their home or garden.

A signature of Singer’s moving sculptures is the use of natural materials and “found” objects weathered by nature. For participants to make their mobiles, Singer and volunteers collected hundreds of native Florida Mahogany seed pods found on the ground throughout the Palm Beaches from trees along streets and in parking lots. Mahogany trees are threatened in their native habitat due to construction clearing and sea level rise.

“Mahogany seed pods symbolize the importance of trees in our lives, and the challenges involved in sustaining a balanced environment,” explains Singer. “As participants build their Mahogany mobiles they experience firsthand that, just as it’s not easy to achieve personal and environmental balance, the same is true for creating a balanced mobile.”

In collaboration with The Palm Beach County Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, Elayna Toby invites everyone to notice native trees in their neighborhood and join the Moving Toward Balance movement by taking a selfie with a native Mahogany tree and sharing it using the hashtag #MyMahoganyTree along with the town where the tree is located. Photos will be presented in the community art program, during the free International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium February 2 - 3.
