Description

Moving Forward is a 501©3 Organization that provides workshop, outreach programs, and performances for young artists in the south. Moving Forward was created to nurture the thriving Dallas dance community. We have had five successful workshops in Texas and are thrilled to bring this organization to Oklahoma! Our Mission is to give participants an unforgettable, invaluable, and inspirational experience through the power of dance and art. We create a safe environment where students feel inspired and encouraged to push their creativity and physicality. We promote creation of new choreography. We strive to bring fresh current ideas and a lens into the ever-evolving dance world into the thriving dance community in the south!

Come join us for an unforgettable and inspiring weekend full of master classes, creative processes, talk backs, mentor sessions and so much more! Moving Forward was created to provide affordable opportunities for artists right in their own backyard. Dancers will train daily in technique classes along with contemporary, choreography, and improvisation workshops.

Come train with 3 Juilliard Grads and working professionals in the field to get a wealth of knowledge and amazing experience!

There will be an end of weekend showing on October 20 at 4 pm. All parents are welcome. Scholarships to future Moving Forward events and other special workshops (to be announced soon) will be awarded.

Madison Hicks:

Madison Hicks, originally from Dallas, TX, graduated from Booker T. Washington HSPVA in 2014 and received her BFA from The Juilliard School in May 2018. She will receive her MFA in Choreography in 2021 from California Institute of the Arts. She was a full time company member with LA Dance Project under the direction of Benjamin Millepied for the 2018/2019 season. Madison is currently a faculty member for Icon Dance Awards, California School of the Arts, and Project 21. She was a 2013 YoungArts winner for modern dance, 2014 US Presidential Scholar in the Arts Nominee and a guest artist in the 2014 YoungArts Presidential Scholar Gala under the direction of Bill T. Jones. She has been a resident choreographer for both Booker T. Washington HSPVA Rep II Ensemble, The University of Texas at Austin, Center of Creative Arts, and Houston MET Too. She was an Avant Chamber Ballet Women’s Choreography finalist and has also had works showcased at Periapsis Music and Dance and WestFest Dance Festival in New York City. She was a recipient of The Juilliard School’s Entrepreneurship Grant. Madison has created and is the director of Moving Forward Dallas, an innovative dance intensive and Non-Profit Organization for young artists.

Alysia Johnson:

Alysia Johnson was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She first found dance at Dallas Black Dance Theatre and later went on to graduate from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where she studied ballet, modern, and composition. Over the course of her training she has performed works by Robert Battle, Emily Molnar, Aszure Barton, Crystal Pite, and Kyle Abraham among others. A recent graduate of The Juilliard School and a two-time recipient of Juilliard's Entrepreneurship Grant she has served the Dallas dance community by founding and directing a summer program that caters to young artists in the DFW metroplex since 2015. This will be Alysia’s second season with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.

Zack Tang:

Originally from Houston, Texas, Zack Tang holds a diploma from The High School for Performing and Visual Arts (07). Upon receiving his BFA from The Juilliard School, under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes, Zack won the Hector Zaraspe Prize for choreography. He has worked with choreographers Victor Quijada, Peter Chu, Alexander Ekman, Stijn Celis, Larry Kegwin, Mark Morris, and Darrell Grand Moltrie, and has performed works by José Limón, Anthony Tudor, Martha Graham, Paul Taylor, and Bronislava Nijinska. In 2012, Zack was listed in Dance Magazine’s “Top 25 to Watch”. Before joining RUBBERBANDance Group, he spent two years with Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet. Most Recently Zack has been casted in events and advertisements for Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Eloize, Street Parade, Aldo, and Running Leap Pictures. After finishing five seasons with RUBBERBANDance Group, Zack has become a licenses massage therapist and aimed his focus towards working with kids and choreographing.
