From North Carolina filmmaker Aaron Morrell and the creative team at Grae Skye Studio comes and intimate portrayal of an artist’s life, process, and the making of a single work of art. Mokuhanga is the traditional Japanese method of woodblock printing and Andy Farkas is a true master of the medium. His works can be found in private and public collections worldwide including The Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History and Savannah College of Art and Design. Storytelling is at the heart of Andy's artwork so it is fitting that this new documentary chronicles the story of one complete artwork; from inception and development of the idea, through the drawing and carving of the work, to the final printing of the edition. The film combines poetic cinematography, mirroring the elegant artwork itself, and allowing us into the life and mind of the artist.
The woodblock print that the film centers around, along with other works by the artist, will all be on view and for sale in the gallery. All ticket holders will receive 10% off of the purchase of any Andy Farkas artwork.
There will be two screenings on Saturday night (6:00 and 8:00 pm), each of which will be introduced by the artist. You will have opportunities after the film to meet Andy and discuss the project. An additional matinee screening is scheduled for Sunday at 2:00 pm without the artist talk. Seating for all screenings is limited so purchase your tickets today to this unique event.
