Event description

Description

The Mourning Mothers Walk 4 Healing is a Pre- Mothers' Day walk featuring a call for action by the community to acknowledge the detrimental impact of violence on victim-survivors and the community. The walk will also feature testimonials from parents and siblings who have lost children to gun violence and Juan Escoveda & Flo Band & Great Food!

This event will help survivor cope with grief related stressors by walking and enjoying great company, music & food. Your much needed support helps us to continue ongoing compassionate support and services to this seemingly faceless population. Last year, many grieving the loss of their loved ones decided to dance in the sun to the beats of Juan Escovedo & Flo!

In 2000, I lost both my 22 year old twin sons (at the same time)! "As an alternative to anti-depressants, I began walking and praying at the San Leandro Marina along with another grieving mother; consequently, the Mourning Mothers Walk 4 Healing was born. It took a while, but I am no longer dependent on anti-depressants. Grief is crippling, PSTD is real: Walking helps ease the pain." Lorrain Taylor, Founder/CEO 1000 Mothers to Prevent Violence

We are hoping to see at least 1000 participants from the Greater Bay Area and beyond who have been impacted by violence. This FunRaiser will help us continue providing ongoing support and services including free grief support groups, home mission (groceries, beddings, home decor, small appliances) and advocacy to families and friends of homicide victim, the homeless and youth.

Thank you again for your support!!
