Spooner Summit to Kingsbury Grade
September 17, 2011
PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR RIDE LOCATION FOR THIS SATURDAYS RIDE HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM SAWTOOTH RIDGE TO SPOONER SUMMIT/KINGSBURY GRADE.
BRIEF RIDE SYNOPSIS: Our adventure will start on Spooner Summit not far from Spooner Lake where we immediately start climbing for about 5 miles. Most of the climb is on single track that zigzags through heavy forest before reaching an exposed ridge known as “Bench Overlook”. At the top you’ll enjoy incredible view of the Tahoe Basin while sitting on a log that’s been cut into a bench eating a well earned sack (the snack you carried with you up the mountain of course). Riders will now have the option of returning to the parking area for an out-and-back trip of about 12 miles and 2,200’ of climbing. Option two will be to continue on down the Kingsbury side of the mountain for another 7 miles before returning to the top again. If you decide to ride to Kingsbury Grade you’ll find the trail is much more “interesting” than the trail coming up from Spooner. The trail becomes much more technical with several tricky areas you may what to walk or at least take a good look at before riding it. The complete out-and-back from Spooner to Kingsbury the ride stats will be about 25miles wirh 3,400’ of climbing.
This will be an intermediate and advanced ride only.
Ride Scripture: Rev 22:1-2 “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”
