Originally constructed in 1799 as a carriage house, the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum building is one of the oldest in Manhattan. But how did a stone house and garden sitting on a half-acre in New York's Upper East Side manage to escape the bulldozer for more than 200 years? From a day hotel to house museum surrounded by modern skyscrapers, it's time to explore the many reincarnations of one of New York's most interesting buildings.

Join New York Adventure Club as we uncover the history behind the landmarked Mount Vernon Hotel Museum building. Located on present day East 61st Street, this stone house and garden dating back to 1799 has served many purposes throughout the past two centuries, most notably as a country escape for New Yorkers during the 19th century.
