Description

Join the Bay Area Climbers Coalition in partnership with Rock Ice & Mountain (RIM) Club and California State Parks to take on some cleaning and maintenance projects around Mount Saint Helena at Robert Louis Stevenson State Park on Saturday, May 5, 2018.

Mount Saint Helena at Robert Louis Stevenson State Park is one of the premier sport climbing crags in the Bay Area. With tons of routes and a wide range of difficulty, it has something for everyone and attracts climbers from all over the Bay Area.

Last year, Mount Saint Helena and the surrounding areas were hit hard by the 2017 Napa Fires. The North Bay climbing community has done an awesome job of restoring the hardest hit crags, but there's still a lot of work to do. The entire area needs extra love, attention, and care from local climbers.

Volunteers are needed on Saturday 5/5 from 9am-1pm to help with the following projects at Mount Saint Helena:

- Glass and trash clean-up

- Clearing of debris from trails

- Trail maintenance

Clean-up will conclude around 1 pm to allow time some afternoon climbing together! We ask that you bring a water bottle and wear closed-toe shoes, a long sleeve shirt, and pants, as poison oak does exist in some areas. Please consider carpooling, as the parking lot is very small. Gloves, tools and lunch will be provided. Bring your own climbing gear for any post-event crushing at Mount Saint Helena (climbing is not a part of this event, but you are welcome to go on your own).

We look forward to working with our friends at the RIM Club, who have been long-time stewards at this crag!

Space is limited! Reserve your spot today!

Logistics

Meeting Point - Meet at the Mount Saint Helena Trail Head, right off of Highway 29. Be careful with the approach because some drivers can take that road pretty fast. Due to limited parking, carpooling is highly recommended.

Safety - We are HUGE on safety! There will be a safety talk at 9am on the day of the event. Please note that we require all participants to be present for the safety talk and wear closed toe shoes. Unfortunately, we cannot allow anyone to participate who does not attend the safety talk and wear closed toe shoes.

Food - Lunch will be provided for all volunteers. Please let us know if you have dietary restrictions. Breakfast and snacks will be generously provided by Peak Yogurt (www.peakyogurt.com).

Water - Please bring your own water bottle with at least 1 liter of water! We will be able to provide some refills, but due to the nature of the event, it might be difficult for everyone to access refills.

Tools - We will be providing tools and gloves, but feel free to bring your own work gloves if you prefer.

Bathrooms - There are no bathrooms at the trailhead, please be prepared. We plan on bringing up a compost toilet, but that should be for emergencies only. Go before you show!

Clothing - Sturdy, closed toe shoes are mandatory. Work gloves, long sleeve shirts, long pants. a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are all highly recommended. Poison oak has been seen in the area, so be prepared!
