Tree planting in the woods

Join us for this fun and educational commnunity event that celebrates nature!

  • Have fun dipping nets into Vivian Creek to found out what lives there
  • Plant shrubs for bees and butterflies and make an impact you can see
  • Enjoy interactive nature games
  • Walk and explore our Mount Albert nature spaces: identify trees, birds and more
  • Learn how to minimize your impact on your natural environment
  • Find out how to create Monarch butterfly habitats

Option 1

10:30am - 11:30am

Vivian Creek Discovery
Aquatic Workshop Fun Activity

Come out and dip your nets in Vivian Creek and discover a whole new world of living things! Learn more about bugs, nymphs, worms and their importance in our environment. Nets and other equipment will be supplied. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for getting a bit wet!

 

Option 2

10:30am - 11:30am

Connecting-to-Nature Games
Fun for All Ages

Enjoy a series of interactive nature activities. Connect with nature. Expect this workshop to be great fun, engaging and educational, not only for children. Come and see what it's all about.

 

Option 3

10:30am - 11:30am

Tree and Shrub Planting
Help Generate a Pollinator Friendly Habitat

Plant shrubs and make an impact you can see. Be prepared to do some work and get your hands dirty while learning about how wildlife and plants interact! These shrubs will provide valuable habitat to pollinators.

 

11:30am - 12:15pm

Free "Local Food" Lunch for Registered Participants

 

12:15pm - 1:15pm

Adventure Walk
Go for a Hike through Vivian Creek Park and stop for fun activities. Stop along the way and participate in:
Monarch Butterfly Habitats, Treasure Hunt, Clay Crafts, Story Walk, Tree Identification, "Leave-No-Trace", more.

 

1:15pm - 1:30pm

Monarch Butterfly "Tag & Release"
Weather permitting (no rain), butterflies will be tagged and released to natural spaces.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

No mimimum age, but all children must be accompanied by an adult.


What is the rain policy?

The event will run rain or shine. Please bring appropriate clothing for outdoor activties.

 

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Plentiful free parking at the Ross Family Complex.

 

What can I bring into the event?

Bring yourself and a cheerful attitude!
