Event description

Description

Come summit Washington State's second highest Volcano with us! This is a co-ed endurance hike to raise funds for the non-profit organization Rescue:Freedom International. Rescue Freedom exists to empower the rescue and restoration of women and children suffering in sexual slavery. With partner sites in five countries, they have touched the lives of over 48,000 women and children. When you sign up for this summit, you will become a part of something bigger than yourself. You will have the thrill of pushing yourself, you will inspire others, and you will grow in knowledge of what you are capable of all while raising funds for Rescue Freedom! Best of all, due to generosity of two private donors, Rescue Freedom administrative costs have been covered so that 100% of what we raise on the mountain will go straight into the field to help others be freed! Mount Adams 2020 Freedom Summit

We will be climbing to the top of Adams via the non-technical south route starting at Cold Springs Campground. We will be hiking 12 miles in a day and covering a total of 6,700 feet of elevation gain. The team max size will be 12 with 1-2 leaders. Some experience with hiking in snow is recommended and the route will get into some basic, beginner mountaineer skills such as traveling with an ice axe, knowing how to self-arrest, snow trekking with crampons or micro-spikes, and glissading. If all of that is new to you don't let that stop you. If you are willing to train, this is the perfect trip to learn on! For those needing it there will be two dates of instruction and practice with the trip leader(s). There will also be multiple conditioning day hikes to join with additional practice and instruction. The day of the summit will get an early start and expect to average about 1.5 miles an hour. Late June and early July is peak season for Summiting Mount Adams so we expect a busy trail, hope for clear skies with amazing views, and having blast glissading down.
