Overview:

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is both a theory of behavioral change and a set of practices designed to encourage behavior change in clients. MI provides a framework for understanding factors related to an individual’s readiness (or lack thereof) to change and techniques designed to promote and maintain a commitment to change. MI provides an understanding of how motivation, confidence, vision, planning, and resistance influence behavioral change from the perspective of a healthcare worker. This training is valuable for anyone who is working to help a person identify goals, pursue the reasons for the goals, and help create plans for change.

Presenter:

Brad Lundahl earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Northern Illinois University. He is an associate professor in the College of Social Work at the University of Utah. Dr. Lundahl is most interested in researching factors that motivate people to change individual behaviors. He has been trained in Motivational Interviewing by one of this approach’s co-founders, Dr. Bill Miller and recently published a manuscript with the other co-founder, Dr. Stephen Rollnick. At the University, Dr. Lundahl publishes on evidence-based practices and teaches in areas of clinical practice and research. In addition to University work, Brad owns a small private practice, Compass Counseling, and Consulting, where he works with individuals and families. Brad strives to integrate research and practice to benefit both efforts.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

The name on the ticket can change; however, whoever attends the training for Part 1 is the only person who can use that spot/ticket for the rest of the training series (Part 2 and 3).
