Event description

Description

In this training workshop different levels of learning Motivational Interviewing are broken down into specific sets of skills and competencies expected of training attendees. The following learning objectives will be targeted:

1. Participants will understand the fundamental spirit and principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI).

2. Participants will strengthen empathic counseling skills and client interaction techniques (OARS) through practice exercises.

3. Participants will learn to recognize client change talk and sustain talk through practice exercises.

4. Participants will learn strategies for increasing client change talk, and adjust strategies when encountering sustain talk through practice exercises.

The workshop is designed to teach initial MI skills (among new learners) and practice MI skills (among those with more experience). The workshop is focused on learning and further developing MI skills, which can be useful in assisting consumers to quit tobacco use as well as facilitate healthy behavior change in multiple areas.
