Description

Motivational Interviewing

Presented by: Charlie Hiatt, LPC/MHSP, QSAP, MAC

Course Description:

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a counseling method that helps people resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior. Compared with non-directive counseling, it's more focused and goal-directed. It departs from traditional client-centered therapy through this use of direction, in which therapists attempt to influence clients to consider making changes, rather than non-directively explore themselves.

Motivational Interviewing is used with persons with Substance Use Disorders to focus in needed changes to address addiction, family dysfunctions, trauma and the overall impact of their addiction. This training will assist counselors to identify and target opportunities for change in this population.
