Motivational interviewing (MI) is a person-centered, guiding method of communication to elicit and strengthen motivation for change. MI is an evidence-based practice, with hundreds of clinical trials demonstrating its efficacy across a broad range of populations and target behaviors.

This 2-day workshop is an intensive introduction to Motivational Interviewing (MI). It will provide participants with an overview of the theory, principles, and skills of MI. Participants will be guided through a sequence of experiential exercises to explore and shape communication practices and begin the process of increasing proficiency in MI. Learning activities will include: demonstrations, video examples, role plays, case studies, small group exercises, and significant participant practice with feedback.

This workshop is appropriate for professionals or volunteers who are in a role of helping clients/patients/students, or educating individuals/groups, with a goal of making and sustaining healthy behavior change. This includes, but is not limited to: counselors, probation officers, health educators, psychologists, physicians, nurses, care managers, dieticians, social workers, occupational therapists, teachers, academic advisors, life coaches, clergy, physical therapists, personal trainers, etc.
