Motivating Residents for Housing Success (Cleveland 7/24/2017)
Mon, July 24, 2017, 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM EDT
Housing stability is a common challenge for individuals with behavioral health disorders. Assisting individuals to consider and embark upon behavioral changes that promote stable housing is an important foundational skill for housing providers. Important foundational skills include an understanding how people consider and make changes, as well as effective listening and communication skills. This training will focus on assisting housing providers to recognize what stage a person is in with regard to a specific behavior. Ineffective communication strategies that reduce or interfere with helpful conversations between housing providers and tenants will be identified. Conversely, effective listening and communication skills will be explored. Participants will have an opportunity to apply the stage of change construct to their current work with tenants. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to observe and/or practice effective listening and communication skills.
