Description

Learn how to program the coolest LED pumpkin lights with your daughter!

In this 2-hour session, you and your daughter will learn how to program on the micro:bit. We'll use programmable LEDs to create fun and unique color patterns to go beyond the usual candle.

Materials cost of $25 includes everything you need to create your programmable lights - micro:bit, NeoPixel LED strip, wires, and batteries. (NOTE: We'll practice on craft pumpkins provided in class, then you'll take your light kit home and put it in your own pumpkin!)

For middle school girls and their moms (or other important females in their life!). No programming experience needed. Please bring one laptop per mother/daughter pair.

Agenda:

6:00 - 6:15 - Introductions, passing out material kits

6:15 - 6:30 - introduction to the micro:bit

6:15 - 6:45 - first programs

6:45 - 7:15 - connecting and programming Neopixels

7:15 - 7:45 - creating patterns

7:45 - 8:00 - clean up and final Q&A


PLEASE NOTE: Only one registration is needed for a mother/daughter pair.

Kari Santos has over 30 years of experience in writing code. Her favorite part of coding is debugging! She has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford, and just completed her MS in ICTD at the University of Colorado, where she focused on designing software and curriculum that engages girls and women.
