Event description
The 2020 Mother Africa Dinner is a luxe benefit dinner that will raise funds to support the organization’s Annual Exposure Trip to Africa.

About this Event

In honor of The Orchid Society’s 10 Year Anniversary, The 2020 Mother Africa Dinner is a luxe benefit dinner that will raise funds to support the organization’s Annual Exposure Trip to Uganda and Kenya. Tickets are $250 to attend and the list of invitees will be exclusive to invitation-only by host committee. The event will begin with a patron party followed by a seated dinner with an African inspired menu by local celebrity chefs including Nina Compton of Compere Lapin and Kelli Fields of Willa Jean. A silent auction will take place during the dinner for chances to bid on fine art, vacation stays and exclusive experiences.

In order to truly celebrate this milestone year for the organization, we want to create one of thee most memorable years for the young ladies we serve by giving them an experience in “the Motherland” - Africa. This mission trip will entail mentors and fellow mentees, whom we affectionately have named orchid buds working together to assist those in need while learning about our history and culture. Our goal is to reveal the complexities of the world we live in while also shining a light on the power we hold in creating positive change near and far in our lives and the world around us. Also, by taking the young girls out of their immediate environment, our hope is to educate them about the power and richness that their roots hold.

The Orchid Society in partnership with Braveheart, a humanitarian organization that focuses on public health initiatives for major health disparities in desolate villages in Uganda, Africa and Enlyte, a non-profit organization that offers exposure travels to under-priviledged girls throughout the U.S. will build a service and eductional-filled itinerary. The mentors and mentees will serve in a voluntary capacity in a mission clinic and venture to volunteer at an orphanage and school that Braveheart partners with in Uganda throughout the year. Enlyte will manage the exposure aspect of the itinerary that will take place in Nairobi, Kenya.
