This course is taught by AGFC biologists to educate landowners on use of prescribed fire as a habitat management tool. Landowners will be introduced to information regarding planning and implementation of a prescribed burn. Safety for fire users and the public, as well as using fire responsibly are heavily stressed. Topics include how to use fire as a tool, pre-burn planning, equipment and safety gear, burn plan writing, weather, ignition techniques, and legal concerns. Hands on demonstrations of tools and techniques, including a live burn demonstration, will be included, weather permitting. This class is free of charge and lunch is provided. We have had these classes around the state with over 150 attendees and recieved great reviews from participants.
