Wednesday, January 3 - Enchanting Fez
After breakfast, we will mostly be on foot for visits to explore Fez, the medieval capital of Morocco, and a great city of high Islamic civilization. Fez has the best-preserved old city in the Arab world, the sprawling, labyrinthine medina of Fes el-Bali, which is incidentally also the world's largest car-free urban zone. Transports of goods is provided by donkeys, carriages, and motorbikes.
- Bou Inania madersa: a breathtaking 14th-century religious college. The best example of Islamic architecture a non-Muslim can see in Fez, with wooden walls elaborately carved with geometric patterns and Arabic calligraphy, and a beautiful minaret. In the courtyard there is a portico with a still-functioning mosque, separated by the rest of the courtyard by a small moat.
- The Merenid Tombs next to the Merenid Hotel, provide excellent panoramic views over the medina and the wider city, as well as the olive tree lined hills surrounding the city, and sanctuary from the bustle of the rest of the city. Beware of the odd opportunistic tout.
Suggested group dinner
Overnight Fez

Thursday, January 4 - Fez to Erfoud via the Atlas Mountains and push for Erg Cherbi Sahara
After breakfast, we will transfer to Erfoud via the majestic Atlas Mountains:
The Atlas Mountains range across a north-western stretch of Africa extending about 2,500 km (1,600 mi) through Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. The highest peak is Toubkal, with an elevation of 4,167 meters (13,671 ft) in southwestern Morocco. The Atlas ranges separate the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines from the Sahara Desert.
Arriving in Erfoud and transferring to Erg Cherbi/ Sahara Desert/ Delux Desert Camp check-in.
Upon arrival at our Desert Camp, we'll have a chance to stroll the sands and explore the Erg Cherbi dunes. Enjoy some wine and maybe even a huka. Optional: Camel Trek Expedition

Friday, January 5 - Sahara to Ouarzazate/ Dades Valley
After breakfast, we'll make our way to the oasis of Tinghir and explore the spectacular Todra Gorge.
Hiking options and photo opportunities abound:
The last 600 metres (1,969 ft) of the Todgha gorge are the most spectacular. Here the canyon narrows to a flat stony track, in places as little as 10 meters (33 ft) wide, with sheer and smooth rock walls up to 160 metres (525 ft) high on each side.
After lunch, we'll visit the Dades Valley on route to Ouarzazate
Suggested Group Dinner
Overnight Ouarzazate

Saturday, January 6 - Ouarzazate/ Ait Ben Haddou to Marrakech
This morning, we'll visit the UNESCO Wold Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified city.
Plenty of time to explore the town and it surroundings.
After lunch, we'll transfer to Marrakech

Marrakech, the most important former imperial city in Morocco's history. The city is the capital of the mid-southwestern economic region of Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, near the foothills of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, being also the third largest city in Morocco.  Marrakesh has the largest traditional Berber market (souk) in Morocco and also has one of the busiest squares in Africa and the world, Djemaa el Fna. The square bustles with acrobats, story-tellers, water sellers, dancers and musicians. By night food stalls open in the square turning it into a huge busy open-air restaurant.

Discover exotic Marrakech. Beginning at the 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque. With visits to El Bahia Palace and the Saadi dynasty tombs. Venture to the lush Palm Grove and Menera Gardens. Cross the finish line at the Djemaa el Fna Square.

Suggested Group Dinner at the Night Market
Overnight Marrakech

Sunday, January 7 - Marrakech, Casablanca, New York

- The trip to Morocco was amazing.  We traveled to remote towns, large cities and the beautiful desert.  The historical sites were beautiful and our local tour guide was very knowledgeable.  The hand crafts were beautifully done and impressive to watch them make.  The trip was a wonderful experience and I am so happy I went.  I thought the entire trip was awesome and only have great feedback. Brigitte, November 2012
