Keynote Speech: How golf clubs can grow by becoming hubs for their communities

Svend Elkjaer, Director, Sports Marketing Network (a leading consultant and information provider focusing on developing vibrant, visible and viable community sport)

Maria Nolan, General Manager, Hollingbury Park and Waterhall golf clubs

Golf clubs that work for and with their communities benefit both themselves and their communities. There are several examples of these benefits such as growing membership and volunteers, increasing income and ensuring a club’s long-term sustainability. Other major sports have a strong community engagement and there are simple steps that golf clubs can take to broaden their scope and enjoy the benefits.

Svend will be providing ideas for how golf clubs can learn from best practice across golf and other sports.

Maria will be sharing tips and advice on how various initiatives drove Hollingbury Park Golf Course to win the category for Strongest Community Engagement at the recent England Golf 2017 Awards.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

There is no official charge for this event, however we are suggesting a £10 donation be made to the England Golf Trust.

The England Golf Trust is to help young people in financial need who, without its support, would not be able to play golf. The funds are not just for elite players but very much for ‘ordinary’ golfers – those who in the future will make up the heart and soul of a golf club. By providing this support, we will create ‘champions’ not only on the golf course but in society; to foster a life-long sporting habit and to allow young people to develop life skills closely associated with the game including confidence, self-esteem and integrity.
