Event description

Description

Some writers see the world as it is and try to replicate it. Others look at the world and ask, “What if…?”

In this 2-hour workshop, we will use writing exercises and discussion to create works of contemporary speculative fiction, focusing on the android or robot story. The course will include a handout of Ryan Harty’s short story “Why the Sky Turns Red When the Sun Goes Down” as well as discussion of Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and other works about the human relationship to artificial intelligence.

This writing workshop is led by Rebecca Johns-Trissler and has a maximum of 15 participants. Registration is required.

One Book, One Chicago launched in fall 2001 as an opportunity to engage and enlighten Chicago residents and to foster a sense of community through reading. After more than a decade of celebrating a culture of reading, CPL and its community partners continue to offer a yearlong season of learning and engagement focusing not just on one book but on one theme integral to the lives of all Chicagoans.
