Event description

Description

‘How do you find a home amidst the cranes and the cardboard?’

Mooring returns for a one-off performance this November. Following 2016’s sell-out run, the show has been touring homeless centres and hostels throughout 2017. Vocal Point present a one-night-only public performance in a stunning East London location rich in theatrical history.

Tickets: £5 or larger donation via Eventbrite (or OTD). All profits to charities supported by Vocal Point.

Info: Ten years ago a senseless act changed Samuel's life. For a decade, he never strays far from his beloved Thames, sleeping rough and keeping himself to himself. Until he meets Tom.

Inspired by true events, Mooring, a powerful new play, confronts homelessness, regret, and how we come to terms with our past.

Mooring debuted in the Brunel Tunnel Shaft as part of Totally Thames 2016. Vocal Point reworked the production for performances at community centres and homelessness hostels in Ladbroke Grove, Southwark, Islington, Earl’s Court and Kilburn amongst others. This 2017 tour will culminate in a public performance at the historic St Leonard’s Church, Shoreditch. As well as its remarkable interior and acoustics, ‘the actor’s church’ was frequented by Shakespeare and sits atop the tombs of Elizabethan theatrical figures, including James Burbage, builder of the first English theatre, and his sons Cuthbert, who built the Globe, and Richard, the first actor to play Macbeth, Hamlet, Richard III, Othello and Romeo. As well as the general public, the Shoreditch show will be attended by members of the New Hanbury Project, a personal development and training centre for those recovering from addiction, run by Spitalfields Crypt Trust.
