Moonlight Meanders
Overview
🌕 Moonlight Meanders – BEAVER MOON
2nd Supermoon of the Year!
Date: Wednesday, November 5, 2025
Time: 6:30–8:30 PM
Location: Glen Emerald Park – 1479 Bouldercrest Rd, Atlanta, GA 30316
Program Description
Under the brilliance of November’s Beaver Moon—our second supermoon of the year—Glen Emerald Park becomes a moonlit world of mystery and motion. Join us for an enchanting evening walk where the park’s night shift takes the stage: rustling mammals, croaking amphibians, and fluttering wings greeting the lunar glow.
As we follow the circular lake trail bordered by woodlands and a man-made dam, we’ll experience how the creatures of Glen Emerald come alive after dark. Each step deepens the connection to nature’s quiet rhythm—a blend of curiosity, calm, and lunar magic.
Bring your flashlight, bundle up, and come ready to build your own “dam” of peace before winter settles in.
Program Leaders
Naturalist Tasha, Melanie Furr of Feathers with Furr, and a DeKalb County Park Ranger
Weather Contingency
This program will be held rain or shine, unless conditions are deemed unsafe.
Where to Meet
Meet in the main parking lot of Glen Emerald Park before we head to the trail—if we all dare! Those feeling adventurous will have the chance to extend the evening with an optional visit to the adjoining Rock Garden to explore its rougher terrain under the moonlight.
What to Bring
- Wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear suitable for uneven surfaces.
- Dress for the weather and bring layers for comfort.
- Bring a refillable water bottle and hiking sticks if you prefer extra stability.
- Don’t forget your headlamp or flashlight for low-light navigation.
Recommended Ages
Content is designed for adults, but participants of all ages and abilities are welcome.
What We’ll Do
We’ll begin with a short orientation at the trailhead, then set out on a guided moonlight walk around Glen Emerald’s lake loop. Along the way, we’ll pause to observe the sounds and silhouettes of nighttime life, explore sensory experiences, and reflect on what the Beaver Moon teaches about preparation, comfort, and transformation.
Moon Meaning Sidebar:
November’s Beaver Moon marks a season of readiness and renewal. Named for the time when beavers fortify their lodges before winter, this full moon—rising bright in Taurus and Scorpio—invites us to balance comfort and change, safety and surrender.
Walking Distance
Approximately two hours of walking along the lake trail. Surfaces include paved and natural pathways with gentle slopes. Rest stops will be provided.
Accessibility
Glen Emerald’s circular lake trail includes both paved and natural terrain. Portions are suitable for strollers or mobility aids, while the optional Rock Garden portion involves uneven surfaces. Please contact Naturalist Tasha (tlmesser@dekalbcountyga.gov) in advance to discuss accessibility needs or alternate participation options.
Participation Notice
By registering for or attending this program, participants acknowledge that outdoor activities involve inherent risks, including those associated with night hiking. In doing so, you agree to assume full responsibility for your own safety and well-being.
