Event description
Minkisi ministry’s “Scripture Prayer and Reflection”, Monday, March 1, 2021, 6:45-9:00 p.m., in Zoom.

About this Event

Come and be refreshed and renewed with African American spirituality signs and symbols, gospel music, gospel music, individual and large group discussions, and silent ‘scripture prayer.’ The scripture passage for the mediation in the first hour will be taken from Philippians 4:6-7:

"Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all undertstanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

In the second hour, the African heritage selections will include a reading discussion of Fr. Maurice Nutt’s book Thea Bowman: In Faithful and Free, pages, 76-79.

Cecilia Braveboy is Minkisi’s faciliator/coordinator and a spiritual director. On March 1, Barbara Harris, a member of the Minkisi group, will be the ‘fearless leader’ of the scripture prayer. The deadline for the Eventbrite registration is Friday, February 26, 2021.

Only registered participants will receive the Zoom meeting information on the morning of March 1. Please register today for the next Minkisi Scripture Prayer and Reflection.

About Minkisi Ministry

Minkisi is in its 24 year of an interracial contemplative prayer and action ministry in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Arlington, VA. The word minkisi is a Kiswahili word that means ‘healing objects’. As Catholic Christians, the scripture-based Minkisi members see themselves as instruments of God’s love and peace. The 2020-2021 annual theme is “Brokenhearted and Bound in the Lord!” Based on Psalm 147:3, He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

For further information about the Minkisi ministry and its programs, see Website - Minkisi ministry.

Please note: We ask each participant of the OLQP Minkisi free events to consider at least a one-time donation to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. Especially during this pandemic, we thank you for monetary contributions, no matter how small.

Two ways to donate -- via Faith Direct and use our parish code VA271, (for Minkisi); or mail a check payable to “Our Lady Queen of Peace Church” with check notation for Minkisi (address: 2700 19th Street South, Arlington, VA 22204). For food pantry donations, see the OLQP bulletin and the website.

Register via Eventbrite. Have questions? Email Cecilia Braveboy about the program at JISAAC3@VERIZON.NET. Email Julia Rocchi about tech questions at rocchijulia@gmail.com.
