What You Will Need

For maximum learning, please bring a copy of the DSM-5 with you - they will not be available for purchase at the meeting!  There is a link on the Education page of the OPPA's website, where you may purchase the manual from APPI or Amazon.


This workshop will be conducted using slides and handouts developed by the editors of DSM-5 and made available only to OPPA trained psychiatrists.


9:30 - 10 am - Registration

10:00 - Noon:

  • Welcome and Introduction to Psychiatric Classification
  • History of DSM and the Development of DSM-5
  • Overall Organization, Major Changes, and Dimensional Assessment
  • Neurodevelopmental, Psychotic, Mood, and Anxiety Disorders

Noon - 12:30 pm -  Lunch

12:30 - 4:15 pm

  • Obsessive-Compulsive, Trauma, Dissociative, and Somatic Disorders
  • Eating, Elimination, Sleep, Sexual, Personality, and  Disruptive Disorders

2:15 - 2:30 pm - Break

  • Substance Use, Neurocognitive and other disorders
  • Diagnosing Special Populations
  • Controversies with DSM-5
  • Final Case Studies, Wrap-up and Final Questions

4:15 pm - Adjourn

 

Cancellations: We encourage you to send a colleague in your place if you are not able to attend.  Cancellations received seven business days before workshop will be refunded in full; otherwise, there is a $50 processing fee.  No refunds will be made the day of the event or after the event.  However, you will be provided with the printed materials.

policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of American Psychiatric Association (APA) and Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Association. The APA
is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The American Psychiatric Association designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

 

PSYCHOLOGISTS
The OPPA is an approved provider (#346558859) of the Ohio Psychological Association of Mandatory Continuing Education (OPA-MCE). A certificate for five and one half hours of continuing education hours will be provided to psychologists who sign the on-site attendance sheet on the day of the event. 


COUNSELORS, SOCIAL WORKERS & MFTs
The Counselor, Social Worker & Marriage and Family Therapist Board has approved this program for 5.5 clock hours of credit for Counselor CPE, Social Worker COE and Marriage & Family Therapist CPE. Approval number: MCST061318.
