Event description

Description

Each and every actor embarking on a career in the performing arts will need to master the art of cold reading, and monologue presentation. Virtually every audition you go to will require one or the other, and often times both! This class is designed for to develop both of these essential skills so that you have an edge over the competition on every audition.

Cold Reading

You go out on an audition and have been given almost no information about what you'll be reading. Someone puts a brand new script in your hand and tells you that you have only minutes to prepare. This is the infamous, nerve-racking Cold Reading audition, many an actor's worst nightmare! But it doesn't have to be! Mastering cold reading just takes some technique, a little know-how, and practice under the guidance of a skilled instructor.

Master important cold reading skills, including

-How to quickly break down and understand a new script
-Making decisions on the fly
-Emotional preparation
-Creating circumstances and objectives to deepen your character
-Creating a relationship with your audition partner
-Committing to the part

The ability to cold read new scripts is an ABSOLUTE MUST for any serious actor. It not only sets you apart from the competition, but also increases your chances of giving a standout audition.

Monologues

If you aren't required to do a cold reading at your audition, you'll need to be prepared to deliver a dynamic monologue. Not just any monologue, but one that you've polished and perfected, which showcases the best of your acting abilities. It's vital that an actor knows a diverse selection of monologues which he or she can be ready to perform at the drop of a hat.

Students in this class will work on two contrasting contemporary of classical pieces. You can show up with monologue pieces of your own which you would like to work on and perfect, or you can choose to have the instructor pick audition pieces that sell you best as an actor based on your character type, age range and branding.
