Fundraising can be a daunting task for many artists. However, it is a necessity in ensuring that your work reaches your intended audience. In this workshop, we will learn how to craft compelling grant proposals that will not only increase your chances of being funded, but will aid in improving the way in which you share the impact of your art.
About the Facilitator
Tamar Cloyd is a fundraising and communications consultant. She has over 10 years experience working in the nonprofit sector, including fundraising, program management, communications (online and print), and direct service delivery. Her previous fundraising positions include development specialist for Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (raising over $500,000 in membership dues and $1.3 million in project/event/general operating funds), grants officer for the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law (cultivating new corporate support for $30,000 from the PNC Foundation) and development manager for Education Voters of America (raising more than $90,000 in her first eight months on the job).
Tamar is a former steering committee member of the D.C. Chapter of Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP). She currently serves on the board of trustees for The Contemporary in Baltimore, Md., as a volunteer reader for The Metropolitan Washington Ear in Silver Spring, Md., and a volunteer editor for The Real News Network. She has also served as a volunteer grant reviewer with the DC Children & Youth Investment Trust Corporation and D.C.’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education.
A native of Chicago, Ill., Tamar holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology (graduating with honors with a cognate in criminal justice) from Michigan State University, and a master’s degree in community social psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. She resides in Baltimore, Md. and is the proud mother of three sons.
