We are so glad you're interested in taking Sign Language Classes with CSDHH! Please see the information below about this class, click here to select a different class, or email email@example.com with any questions!
This class meets for eight weeks on Monday evenings from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. This class is Monday nights, for Level 2. If you need a different Level, please click here.
Level 2: Students should have a proficiency in finger-spelling and the 200 signs taught in Level 1. In Level 2, students will be taught a minimum of 200 additional signs, bringing them to a total of approximately 400 signs with which they should be proficient at the end of the session. Students should expect to be intereacting with one another without the use of their voices during some activities. Students will also concnetrate on the correct production of signs and basic receptive skills and will also expand their knowlege of Deaf Culture.
Classes are designed for adults. We are not able to be responsible for children, especially considering some of the classrooms are not directly adjacent to our office. Students under age 12 are not allowed to take classes. Students age 12 to 16 must sign up with an adult who is registered for the same class, and must have prior approval from CSDHH. If you are signing up with someone age 12 to 16, please first contact CSDHH here.
Students should understand that this class is not direct training for sign language interpreters. This class is to increase signing vocabulary and skill. Students interested in becoming interpreters may find these classes helpful as an introduction or support for more comprehensive classes offered at UNCG.
If the minimum number of students is not met, we will have to cancel the class. In that case, students will have the option to switch nights, to defer their registration to the next session, or to receive a refund.
If you have any special accommodations, please let us know two weeks before classes begin. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 336-275-8878.
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
There are no ID requirements for the event. Students age 17 and older are more than welcome to sign up alone. Children ages 12-16 must attend with an adult who is also signed up for the same class, and must have filled out the Special Registration Form with parental permission. Contact email@example.com to learn more. Children under the age of 12 are not able to take these classes.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
There is plenty of parking in lots just across from our entrance, and also 2 accessible parking spaces as well as more along the street.
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call our office at 336-275-8878 x6.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
You don't need to print or bring your ticket, we'll have access to the registration list of who has signed up.
What is the refund policy?
Full refunds will be given to students who cancel at least 5 business days prior to the first day of class; no refunds will be given after that point. After that point, students may choose to attend classes or defer their registration to a later session.
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
When signing up, there should be an option to specifiy the name of the attendee if it is different than that of the person who is purchasing the ticket. If you're unsure, just email us or call our office and we'll be sure everything is documented correctly!
What happens in the event of inclement weather?
In the event of inclement weather, we follow Guilford County Schools. If there is a district-wide cancellation, or if they dismiss early, we will cancel class. We do try to let all students know as well. If you're ever unsure, feel free to call or email us!
What if I don't know which level to sign up for?
Email email@example.com and include any background experience or previous knowledge you have with sign language.
Are these classes for interpreters?
No, these classes are designed to provide basic conversational skills and vocabulary.
Can I bring a friend/family member/partner with me to class?
Unfortunately, space in our classes is very limited and we are unable to accommodate guests who are not registered for class.
I am taking these classes for my job. How do I document proof of course competion?
While we do not offer training for interpreters nor procide CEUs or other credits, we do provide a certificate of completion for classes as proof of attendence.
My schedule changes often, can I come on Mondays some weeks and Thursdays other weeks?
Unfortunately, no. Our classes generally get pretty full, so there's likely not a seat available on the other night than the one you're signing up for. Additionally, while the curriculum is the same for both nights, sometimes student questions and size differences mean that on any given week the two classes may not be entirely in sync.
