We have reached a major milestone in our study of Scripture: we have finished the Torah and the Gospels, plus Acts. Now we go back to the Hebrew Scriptures and we continue our narrative, as the Israelites cross the Jordan River and conquer and settle the Promised Land. By the end of Judges, however, the Israelites have become even more corrupt than the people they have dispossessed.

In the little book of Ruth, we turn back in a recapitulation to "the days when the Judges ruled," and like finding a diamond in the muck and the mire, we encounter the greatest love story in the Bible, the story of Ruth and Boaz . . . and we learn that God's plan is still on the move!
