This group offers moms in West Los Angeles a community where they can come, share their experiences, and learn how to navigate the complex life of being a mom of two (or more) little ones (ages up to 5), all while their little ones can play and socialize together nearby with supervision.
The moms group is led by Elaine Barrington, LCSW. Each group will begin and end with a shared song or activity with the children. For the group, the mothers will separate for a 45 minute discussion about parenting, child development, sibling issues, and questions about what's happening at home, while the children will be in the same room for supervised free-play, stories and activities. After the group discussion ends, we will sing and say goodbye, and supervised free play will continue until 3pm, while the moms can relax and socialize in the parents' lounge. If you need more than two children supervised, additional children are $5/each. Small babies that stay with their mothers are free.
Groups may be attended as your schedule allows. Session packages of 5 and 10 groups are discounted and can be used for non-consecutive weeks in 2014 and drop-in groups may be purchased individually and used for any group in 2014.
Elaine Barrington, LCSW
Elaine received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan in 1994 and her License as a Clinical Social Worker in California in 1998. From 1996 to 2007 Elaine worked for Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services and Westside Children’s Center in early intervention programs providing therapeutic services to children birth to five and their families. She credits working as part of multi-disciplinary teams with pediatric nurses and child development specialists for her breadth of knowledge about infant development and health. In these settings she developed her own expertise in infant mental health and attachment and bonding.
Elaine was grateful for all her years of training and experience when she became a mom in 2005. Her professional experience helps her face the challenges of parenting her two daughters with a calm understanding. Her goal is to provide support, information, and skills to help you feel clear and centered about your parenting choices, and appreciate and enjoy your relationship with your children.
Kristi is a former marketing executive and mom of two young children living in Los Angeles. She founded Momsof2.com and the Moms of Two support group because she sensed a need in the community to have more support and resources for mothers with more than one child.
