Event description

Description

This free workshop offers good news:

Adapted materials are both a legal requirement and a learning requirement for many scholars who have disabilities or individualities. Figuring out the thorny issue of actually delivering on the promise of access to content in inclusive settings requires creativity, flexibility, and cooperation between home and school. This workshop will provide up-to-date information on making, using, and evaluating adaptations. It will include resources for making adapted material in less time. Together, we will answer these question, and others:

What makes a good adaptation?

What workhorse apps are available that are easy and flexible to use?

What are other schools doing to effectively include learners in content access?

How do I evaluate progress with learners using adapted materials? Is there any way to do it quickly? (Yes.)

What strategies are available to include scholars who do not write?

How do we balance the needs of typical peers with the needs of exceptional learners?

Isn't it true that high school content can't be adapted successfully if the learner has significant disabilities? (No.)

How can we work together as a school/family team to provide effective adaptations.

Also included:

Adaptations for beginning readers or non-readers K - 12
Best practices for collaborating with our Para-educator colleagues
