Description

QUIRK HOTEL

Richmond, Virginia’s first boutique lifestyle hotel has already gained a notable standing as both an upscale getaway for visitors and a popular destination for locals. The building dates to 1916 and originally housed J.B. Mosby & Co., a luxury dry goods store. Katie and Ted Ukrop worked alongside the architects at 3north and the designers of POESIS design to carefully preserve the original structure using State and Federal historic tax credits, and renovated the building. The hotel features 70 guestrooms and 4 penthouse suites as well as a restaurant and bar, Maple & Pine. Particularly unique to the project, the hotel is a hybrid of equal parts boutique hotel and contemporary art gallery. Accessible from the lobby is an in-house art gallery, owned and operated by the hotel owner, Katie Ukrop. The project will further prove its status as a cultural hub for travellers and Richmonders-alike with the opening of its rooftop bar in a few months. Standing nine stories, the project offers one of the most accessible views of downtown Richmond in the entire city.

This month’s event is presented in tandem with AIA Architecture Week and a part of DesignMonthRVA.
