Raised in Germany, trained in New York City, and now based in St. John’s, jazz pianist and composer, Florian Hoefner returns to The Bassment, this time performing with the German jazz collective Subtone. Formed in 2005 in Berlin and standing at the forefront of today’s young, innovative jazz ensembles, the quintet has performed concerts at home and abroad, including festivals such as the Bohemia Jazz Fest in the Czech Republic and Jazz Baltica in Salzau, Germany. One of the most sought-after jazz ensembles in Europe, Subtone features Malte Durrschnabel (woodwinds), Peter Gall (drums), Matthais Pichler (bass), Magnus Schriefl (trumpet/flugelhorn), and Hoefner (piano).
