Event description

Description

JAPAN HOUSE presents an intensive, two-hour workshop on the foundations of architectural model-making led by Los Angeles-based architecture studio Spinagu. Through this hands-on educational program, participants gain insight into how celebrated Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto conceptualizes and creates his models, including the appropriation of objects, techniques of composition and aggregation, and representation of materials. All participants are guided through the creation of their own architectural model, which they will be able to take home.

The program is broken into three sections. First, participants attend an architect-led walkthrough and discussion of the “SOU FUJIMOTO: FUTURES OF THE FUTURE” exhibit in the Level 2 Gallery. The program then moves to the 5F Salon, where the designers introduce the fundamentals of model-making as a tool for formal, spatial and material experimentation. In the final step, participants are led through the creation of their own model, inspired by what they have learned. Through three materials (wood, paper, and mesh), participants discover firsthand how materiality enables different spatial and architectural possibilities, and allows them to realize the spaces of the imagination.

Minors must be accompanied by an adult. In this case, one ticket provides one model.
