Event description

Description

The Daimler Trucks N.A. Mockup Development Center creates hundreds of Go-No Go gauges for the truck production plants to assist in fit and finish of hoods, doors, bumpers, mirrors, as well as weld and assembly fixtures. Many new technologies are being applied to support the production process enabling higher quality builds and inspection. The presentation will walk through many of the inspection tools and processes used to ensure quality truck builds including Faro arm touch probes, laser scanners, 3D printers, and Mixed Reality inspections. There will be a tour of the mock-up center following the presentation.

Speaker - Tom Gomoll started in the precision sheet metal industry nearly 30 years ago with the first day on the job producing Freightliner FLD sleeper trim angles on a rotary bender. Since that day he has produced thousands of sheared, punched, laser cut, bent, machined and 3D printed parts, tools, fixtures and assembly aids. Tom started at the F/L parts plant in 1997 until its closing. He rejoined Daimler in 2005 working for the MDC overseeing the group in tools, fixtures, templates, checking gauges as well as inspection equipment including laser scanning and Mixed Reality.
