Event description

Description

Join us for a soundwalk and a map workshop led by artist and sound designer José Rivera. As an invitation to deepen our connection to the environment through sound, the program will include a range of activities integrating sensory perception, physical action, and the art of spatial thinking.

Walk will take place rain or shine! Please dress for walking and the weather.

Join us on Thursday, June 13th for Rivera's conversation on environmentalism, art in the landscape, and acoustic ecology. Sign up on eventbrite.

José Rivera is an architecturally-trained artist and sound designer who explores humans’ relationship to the natural and built environments. His creative practice is expressed through experimental sound works as installations and performances, sound design for film, environmental sound recording, maps, photography, graphic design, and architecture. Recent works have been exhibited internationally, as well as at the Goethe-Institut Boston, ICA Boston (Leap Before You Look: Black Mountain College 1933–1957), Bushwick Open Studios, MIT’s MediaLab and List Visual Art Center, Harvard’s Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Center for Visual and Performing Arts at UMass Dartmouth, and Le Laboratoire in Cambridge. Along with numerous collaborations, his fluid body of work also includes the design and construction of an open¬-air performance space for a youth dance and drumming group in rural Ghana. He studied art and sound in MIT’s Art, Culture, and Technology Program and currently lives in Cambridge, MA.
