2. VoIP via Mobile Phone with Dan from VTalk
Sydney-based VTalk have had a hardware VoIP solutiion for Small to Medium businesses for a while, but they recently launched a mobile version of their VoIP client which will allow them to make their service easily to sell and for customers to set-up. They will be talking about the business and design decisions that drove the mobile app, and other platforms in the future.
Dan Nolan is, like many people at small startups, not confined to a single job title or role - though his official title is Engineer. When he's not hacking on projects at vtalk, or giving presentations he's messing around on twitter as @dannolan.
3. How to Make a Feature Phone Smarter using the Cloud... with Mark from Binu
biNu has a fast growing user mobile internet user base with 3.1 million unique users with over 90% growth year since launch in January 2011. biNu is based in Sydney but most users are from the emerging markets of Asia, Africa, South America providing a smart phone experience on feature phones.
biNu uses the cloud to provide a virtual smartphone for phone users. By executing apps in the cloud, biNu eliminates the processing constraints of the phone to deliver functionality, performance and usability not otherwise possible giving mass-market feature phones a smartphone-like capability. biNu apps are not constrained by a mobile phone processor and the mobile phone appears to exceed its design constraints.
Over 100 apps run in the biNu virtual smartphone all accessible by virtually any mobile phone. Apps include social media (Facebook and Twitter), search (Google & Bing), reference, books, email, text, news, weather, religion, entertainment and sport. biNu runs on most Java enabled feature phones as well Android devices. All that is required is a data connection. As you could imagine the most popular services are those that enable the users to communicate with others. Whether that is via SMS, Chat, Email, Facebook, Twitter or biNu beats.
