Event Details

We are Mobile Food Unit Houston -- a collective of micro-entrepreneurs looking to further increase our city's unique and affordable food options and business successes. Comprised of devoted vendors within Houston's mobile food community, our collective group seeks to motivate postive change and growth through collaboration, discussion, education and dedication.

In the past four years, MFUH has focused mostly on providing Houstonians with information about ongoing political issues affecting Houston's ever-changing mobile food landscape. MFUH has experienced many significant victories at city hall in that time alongside a diverse group of advocates, business owners, customers, entrepreneurs, foodies & other supporters of Houston's mobile food units.

We've since taken steps with some of the original founders of MFUH to re-visit, broaden & develop upon our existing coalition of Houston food truck owners & operators. Our vision is to strengthen a community of mobile food unit owners & operators, working together as a non-profit organization to unify our presence & ensure the city of Houston collectively takes our mobile food community seriously as an industry.

Christina Walsh & Phil Applebaum are coming to Houston, TX on Tuesday, November 18th, 2014 on behalf of the Institute for Justice (IJ) -- a nonprofit, public interest law firm based in Washington, D.C. that advocates for economic liberty. IJ has worked with food truck owners across the country in multiple markets, scoring major victories in New Orleans and Washington, D.C., where the city’s mobile food laws prevented food truck owners from being able to earn an honest living.

Christina & Phil have offered IJ’s experience in grassroots campaigns built around mobile food communities to improve their food truck laws. This will aid us in a process to make sure they do not become more burdensome here at home, especially now that Houston's mobile food community is likely to be perceived as a bigger threat to restaurants with Mayor Annise Parker's administration welcoming propane-fueled MFUs in to Downtown Houston and the Houston Medical Center this past September.

The Institute for Justice is a non-profit organization and will not be charging us for its services. In fact, they're taking us out together for dinner & drinks. Join us for the invite-only MFUH owner-operator meeting at 8th Wonder Brewery on Tuesday, November 18th, 2014 at 7:00pm. IJ's seminar will last about an hour before general Q & A.

Please RSVP prior to arrival on Tuesday, November 18th, 2014. Any/all parties interested in speaking at the event are encouraged to inquire with us before RSVPs close for the event.
