MELANIE HALL

Melanie Hall has illustrated magazines and over 50 children’s books in her career spanning over 25 years. Melanie has received numerous awards including the Parents’ Choice Award for an outstanding picture book and a Sydney Taylor Notable Book. Her illustration has been exhibited at the Original Art Show at the Society of Illustrators in New York, and her books have been favorably reviewed by the New York Times Book Review, School Library Journal and Kirkus Reviews. Her work is in the collection of the Mazza Museum at the University of Findlay.

BIO

Educated at Rhode Island School of Design, Pratt Institute, B.A.; Marywood University, M.A. Illustrator since 1978 with numerous clients in New York City, Boston, and across the nation.

Melanie is currently teaching children’s book illustration to undergraduate students at Marywood University and graduate students in Marywood’s MFA program”Get Your Masters With the Masters” in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She also teaches creative workshops at the Highlights Foundation in Honesdale, Pennsylvania.

Melanie is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

MEGAN HALSEY

Megan Halsey is a professional, commercial artist celebrating 30 years in the business of making art. She has illustrated 46 books, some of which she has also written. Her favorite praise for her picture book work was from The New Yorker magazine when it called her dimensional artwork “tromp l’oile marvels”.

In addition to children’s books, Megan illustrates articles for magazines and newspapers like Family Circle and The Boston Globe. Her art and designs have been used for logos, packaging, and wine labels, and have been licensed for giftware, textiles, wall art and greeting cards.

Megan’s fine art paintings have been accepted into regional and national juried shows and recently received an award of excellence. Her commercial work, personal art and paintings were exhibited at Marywood University’s Mahady Gallery in 2020 in a retrospective of her art along with Melanie Hall, titled “M&M: Art and Spirit”.

Megan is a former professor at Pratt Institute, Moore College of Art & Design, and Pennsylvania College of Art & Design. She currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses at Marywood University. She is especially honored to teach in Marywood’s wonderful MFA Program - Get Your Masters with the Masters- where she earned her Masters Degree in illustration.

A former New Yorker, Megan now lives and works in the small town of Lansdowne, PA where she has been an active volunteer for two decades holding positions of chair for the Lansdowne Arts Board and director of arts & crafts for the Lansdowne Arts Festival. She is currently co-founder of Women Creating Community Lansdowne.
