We're excited to announce our next MLUX meetup with ARVR Academy at Microsoft Reactor in SF! For this event, ARVR Academy’s directors, alumni, and community will share with us their knowledge of how machine learning is used in immersive technologies like virtual and augmented reality, and explore research and design related to interfaces and interactions that move outside of the screen and into the world around us.

About ARVR Academy
ARVR Academy is a non-profit organization that provides community, educational materials, and professional development opportunities for underrepresented groups in the fields of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality. The speakers for this event will talk about the different areas where design and artificial intelligence intersect with virtual and augmented reality and leave attendees with information about ways to get involved!

Suzanne Leibrick
Suzanne Leibrick is an XR Market Development Engineer at Intel and co-founder, Chief Executive Officer at ARVR Academy. She currently works with the RealSense group and has a passion for enabling virtual and augmented reality content creators to work with technologies related to XR, most recently in the area of computer vision. Suzanne is also well-versed in 3D art and animation technologies, and is passionate about improving diversity in the immersive technology space. Suzanne will be speaking about machine learning in depth sensing for immersive technology.

Liv Erickson
Liv Erickson is an open source software engineer and Senior Product Manager working in Mozilla’s Emerging Technologies division with the Mixed Reality team on social content and environments. Her work within the VR space focuses on enabling anyone to create virtual reality applications, improving access to immersive technologies, and understanding the intersection of XR with policy, design, and social behaviors. Liv is a co-founder of ARVR Academy and sits on the board of directors. Liv will be speaking about designing pro-user social VR applications and the role of machine learning in shared 3D spaces.

Katie Hughes
Katie Hughes is a San Francisco-based product designer specializing in emerging technology. An ARVR Academy alum, she currently works on social VR at Oculus, and previously led product design at Beast, Inc. (designing AI-driven virtual reality pets) and at YBVR (designing their initial VR UI). In 2018, Katie was a featured speaker at XRDC discussing best practices on designing for VR arcades, and is a frequent guest lecturer on VR UX around the Bay Area. Katie is passionate about creating an inclusive technological future, and cofounded the Roomscale Designers Meetup where she ran accessible VR design workshops.
