THE GLOBAL STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM
To honor the life and legacy of Dr. King, please join us for our annual Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration at the Holiday Inn by the Bay on Monday, January 18, 2016. This year's celebration takes place as a dinner program featuring gospel music, a keynote address and a special welcome from Portland Mayor Ethan Strimling. A children’s program accompanies the dinner for ages 6 - 13 sponsored in association with Goodwill of Northern New England.
Hundreds of people will come together to make this one of the largest and most diverse programs held in the state throughout the year.
Tickets for the dinner, which range in price from $60 per person to a reserved table for ten people at $1,500 can be purchased on this website. Sponsorships are also available as well as an opportunity to place an ad in the printed dinner program. Detailed information can be found at www.naacp.me or by calling (207) 653-3953.
The 2016 MLK Holiday Observance includes several other community-based events; a music and gospel concert on Friday, January 15 at Merrill Auditorium, youth summit on January 16 at USM and a film on January 27 at SPACE Gallery. The concert, a family-friendly event with performers of all ages, is truly an inspiring and joyful evening that should not be missed! Tickets are available at www.porttix.com.
Each of our events will explore the meaning of freedom, not as a single idea meant for a select few in limited areas of the world, but as a universal birthright in which human beings are equal citizens of a global community.
Over the past several decades, your support for the branch has allowed us to advance the rights of Mainers from across the political, social and economic spectrum. It has strengthened our belief in Dr. King's beloved community and deepens our commitment to those who seek freedom, equality and justice throughout the world.
We hope that you will consider joining us at this critical time in our history.
