Event description

Description

As part of our MLK Week of Service, advocate for tenant's rights by flyering with the Crown Heights Tenants Union.

The Crown Heights Tenant Union (CHTU) is a tenant-led organization that fights against displacement in central Brooklyn. By working to bring tenants together, CHTU challenges predatory landlords seeking to harm low-income residents, while lobbying elected officials to strengthen the laws that protect them. Once a month they hold a general membership meeting that is an opportunity to introduce new people to the work of the union and offer trainings on their basic rights.

We will be doing outreach for CHTU's membership meeting by handing out flyers at various subway stations, churches, community centers, and buildings with repair or harassment issues. Community outreach through flyering is essential to the success of the monthly meeting.

Accessibility Info: Our workshop is not ADA compliant because of the lack of bathroom space, but is otherwise wheechair accessible and does not require steps to enter. As for canvassing, we will be handing out flyers in various locations in the neighborhood, which requires moving around and being in the cold for varied periods of time.

Ages 16+ please.
