Event description

Description

Repair the World and Hannah Senesh Community Day School invite you to honor MLK Day by making toiletry kits and baby care kits for St. Johns Bread and Life. We will also be participating in an advocacy project.

Dr. King's legacy and lifelong pursuit of racial justice inspires us to engage in meaningful conversation about race in our country today. In addition to assembling important materials, this service opportunity provides the unique chance to dive into developmentally appropriate conversations with children about racial justice in Brooklyn

Children will create toiletry kits and baby care kits that will be distributed at St. Johns Bread and Life. St. Johns Bread and Life is one of Brooklyn's largest food pantry & soup kitchen spaces, and offers a multitude of social services. Items will be packaged together so that clients can easily pick up their items while shopping in the pantry or accessing the soup kitchen.

Parents will participate in a letter-writing advocacy project encouraging city funding to support access to food choice for New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity.

This opportunity is open to all ages, and is most appropriate for 5-12 year olds.

This project is hosted by Hannah Senesh Community Day School. The project will take place on multiple floors and can be accessed via elevator.
