Event description

Description

As part of our MLK Week of Service, volunteer with Hunger Free America to distribute information about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) around Franklin Ave / Eastern Parkway and Central Library of the Brooklyn Public Library.

Nationwide, approximately 33% of people eligible for SNAP benefits do not participate. Volunteers will be canvassing on behalf of Hunger Free America in Central Brooklyn to raise awareness about SNAP benefits available to but underutilized by many NYC residents. Canvassing provides crucial information to local residents on who to contact to receive more information and check their eligibility.

Volunteers will get the chance to meet community members and inform others of the benefits of SNAP. Prior to canvassing, we will meet in the Repair the World Brooklyn workshop to provide an overview of SNAP and its importance to the NYC community. We will then do outreach in the community for an hour and return for reflection.

If you have any questions or want more information, contact Riki Robinson at riki.robinson@werepair.org.
