Event description

Description

As part of our MLK Week of Service, advocate for tenant's rights by canvassing with the Metropolitan Council on Housing.

The Metropolitan Council on Housing (also known as the Met Council) is a tenants' rights membership organization made up of New York City tenants who believe in the motto of "housing for people, not profit." Formed over 50 years ago, the Met Council fights for a city where everyone has access to safe, decent, affordable housing. They organize tenants to stand up not both for their individual rights and for changes to housing policies.

We will be knocking on doors to speak to tenants about any issues they may be having in their building, and providing resources on tenant's associations and standing up for their rights. We will also be handing out magnets that let people know their rights to heat in the wintertime. Don't worry if it's your first time canvassing - we will do a training before we start!

Accessibility info: We will be walking up stairs. Elevator access in apartment complexes is not guaranteed (oftentimes, elevators are in disrepair, which is part of what we are flighting for). Snacks will be provided.

Ages 16+ please.

If you have any questions or want to learn more information, feel free to email Alison Rollman at alison.rollman@werepair.org.
