Event description

Description

As part of our MLK week of service, join Repair the World in learning from the Osborne Association about the issues facing families where a parent is incarcerated, and advocating for those parents.

The Osborne Association works in partnership with individuals, families, and communities to create opportunities for people affected by the criminal justice system to further develop their strengths and lead lives of responsibility and contribution. They design, implement, and advocate for solutions that prevent and reduce the damage caused by crime and incarceration.

The Osborne Association will talk about their work, and then volunteers will call elected officials to ask for incarcerated parents to be relocated to prisons that are closer to their children, and for children and families to have access to buses to visit parents in prison.

Any ages can come to the event, but it is suggested for people high school and older. The Repair the World workshop has no steps, but is not a fully ADA-compliant space due to a too-small bathroom. All restrooms at the workshop are gender-neutral.
