About this event

Part 1 of a 3-Part Conversation Series

Join us for an evening conversation between our Pastor Dr. Daymond Glenn and special guest Dr. Daniel White Hodge as they discuss the need for the church to embrace a hip-hop theology when responding to the lived experiences of people shaped by life on the margins in inner-city urban America.

The Cultural Soul Project is a new Church in Portland, Oregon dedicated to addressing the needs of People of Color in inner-city urban America through the lens of the African-American experience, and our ministry exists at the intersections of race, faith, hip-hop, and justice.

Our special guest Dr. Daniel White Hodge is a recognized Hip-Hop Culture, Religious Studies, and Cultural Literacy expert and scholar. Dr. Hodge is Professor of Communications at North Park University in Chicago, and his research interests are at the intersections of faith, hip-hop culture, race & ethnicity, and young adult ethnic-minority emerging generations. Dr. Hodge is a prolific author and has written seven books: Heaven Has A Ghetto: The Missiological Gospel & Theology of Tupac Amaru Shakur (2009), The Soul Of Hip Hop: Rims, Timbs, & A Cultural Theology (2010), Hip Hop’s Hostile Gospel: A Post Soul Theological Exploration (2017), Homeland Insecurity: A Hip Hop Missiology for the Post-Civil Rights Context (2018), Baptized In Dirty Water: Reimagining the Gospel According to Tupac Amaru Shakur (2019), Intercultural Communication: A Societal Approach to Developing Intercultural Competencies (2020), and Hip-Hop and Dismantling the School-to-Prison Pipeline (2021). Dr. Hodge is currently working on an edited volume scheduled for publication in late 2022, Marveling Religion.

Ticket entry to this event is on a first come, first served basis while seats last.
