Update 1/14/2022: To ensure the utmost safety and the best experience for our guests, the Sloan Retail Conference will be moving to a fully virtual delivery on February 11-12, 2022. Those who have already purchased tickets will receive information on refunds to match new ticket prices. We look forward to seeing you virtually at the 5th Annual Retail Conference!

The Retail Conference will take place from February 11-12, 2022 and encompasses two days of panels, networking, career chats, and interactive experiences. This year’s theme is “End-to-End” where we explore how retailers are innovating throughout the product life cycle, from sustainable sourcing practices through production and up to Customer Experience and Delivery Logistics.

The conference will kick-off with a case competition, sponsored by Unilever. The case will focus on balancing environmental impact, consumer experience, and profitability in the eCommerce business.


Virtual Case Competition

Are you excited to solve real-world problems and partner with a mission-driven company? The MIT Sloan Retail Consumer Goods Conference case competition is open for all current students, regardless of location. Please purchase a Case Competition Ticket to register by December 21. (Please note that all team members must register and pay $10 through Eventbrite.)

Case Overview

Unilever is strongly committed to making “sustainable living commonplace” and achieving durable business growth. Focusing the MIT Retail Conference Case Competition on its growth in the eCommerce sector, Unilever is seeking proposals to balance its three strategic priorities: minimal environmental impact, stellar consumer experience, and sustainable profitability. How can Unilever optimize its process for a well-protected eCommerce product while balancing its key principles?


• Work with a cross-functional team of international students on a circular economy business challenge

• Suggest actionable real-world solutions for Unilever’s e-commerce team

• Interface with senior Unilever staff and experts

Sustainability in Sourcing // This panel will discuss how companies are innovating in what and how they source their materials.

Consumer Experience // This panel explores how retailers are finding new and innovative ways to engage with and delight consumers.

Logistics // This panel will focus on the hurdles and challenges involved in logistics, and any technical solutions to overcome them.

People Management // This panel will focus on how companies are creating and building resilient workforces and community amongst employees.

Emerging markets // Exploring how retailers are building new or adapting existing retail concepts to serve customers in emerging markets.

Last Mile Delivery // This panel will focus on companies innovating around last mile delivery.
