Event Details

The Futures of Entertainment is an annual event which explores the current state and future of media properties, brands, and audiences and the way these groups interact and intersect with one another. By combining a mix of leading media studies scholars and cutting-edge media and marketing practitioners from a diverse range of locations and sectors--in conjunction with fans, activists, journalists, analysts, and other voices--in lengthy discussion, this two-day conference explores how the media industries are evolving, how storytelling is changing and the shifting dynamics in how people relate to media properties and brands.

The Futures of Entertainment conference brings together professionals from academia and the marketing and media industries to discuss how communication between media producers/brands and audiences are changing, and how the nature of storytelling is shifting in a digital era. The conference features thought leaders who are shaping the direction of digital media. All the first five conferences have been hosted at MIT, where the event and the Convergence Culture Consortium research project that launched it were both conceived.

The Futures of Entertainment conference hosts deep and thorough conversations on the ethics of social media, the future of media metrics and measurement, the challenges of building transmedia storytelling, changing relations between companies and their audiences and the rapidly changing nature of fan activity, online and off.
